What is Remote Sensing?

Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about an object or phenomenon without making physical contact with the object.

Remote sensing is one of the basic enabling technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT), in which almost any imaginable entity can be equipped with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network autonomously.

Internet of Things (IoT) Technology
In simple terms the Internet of things (IoT) connects any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other) to collect and exchange data.

How can IoT help you and your business?
IoT devices can be connected to each other and controlled to improve efficiency, which in turn has direct effects on the productivity of the business. More can be done in less time. IoT software and appliances allow workers to accomplish large-scale tasks in a faster and error-free fashion.

Our Involvement in IoT technology
Reveal has been actively involved in the use of state-of-the-art technology to make it easier for our clients to plan, monitor and maintain underground infrastructure. We’ve installed IoT enabled sensors on Underground Stormwater interceptor tanks that continuously monitor the liquid levels in the tanks (oil + water) to reduce the risk of overflow and report back in near real time back to our dashboard system - which can be viewed on our devices any at any time. Below is a graph from the real time data feed coming through to our dashboard system.

Reveal is working closely with LoRaWAN network providers to bring what’s going on in the field to our clients’ computer screens. The data that is coming through at regular intervals is proving to be very valuable in terms of its correlation to actual rainfall and its ability to predict overflow events. It is also proving invaluable in comparing aged infrastructures actual performance against design capacity of the assets. To date, we’ve been able to study trends, water flow patterns and the amount of rainfall that causes the system to overflow.
